Become a Patient for Proton Therapy

At the IU Health Proton Therapy Center, we strive to help you have a better understanding of treatment options. Proton radiotherapy can be an excellent option for treatment by itself or in conjunction with other modalities. Please refer to our list of conditions treated to see if proton radiotherapy may be an option for you.

The IU Health Proton Therapy Center accepts physician referrals as well as self referrals. We encourage you discuss all options with your primary physician. There are five steps to becoming a patient:

  • We will determine if you are a potential candidate for treatment through a preliminary confidential phone screening or direct referral from your physician.
  • You will then schedule a consultation with one of our radiation oncologists.
  • After the consultation, if it is determined that you are a candidate for proton therapy, and you are ready to move forward with treatment, we begin the process of insurance approval or work with you on other payment arrangements.
  • Treatment planning begins once insurance is approved and the patient is ready to start.
  • The treatment process begins upon completion of your custom treatment plan.
